Profiles In Nature
By far, my favorite photographic subjects are invariably outdoors. Mother Nature has blessed us with such diversity that I cannot imagine ever growing tired of photographing her in all her splendor. I am extremely fortunate to live where I do, in rural Nova Scotia. This past winter we had at least nine deer come out every day: sometimes several times a day to eat the apples we put out for them. It was nice when they started bringing their babies to meet us, but the high point for me has been one deer that we call Molly. She not only takes apples from my hand, but she tries to play with me. She has taken the glove right off my hand and then backed up and waited for me to go get it from her. She has grabbed my jacket when I turn to leave and one day, while I bent down to pick up an apple, she licked my face. She has done so several times since then. How can you not love that? But the deer aren't the only animals I like to photograph and I hope you enjoy the ones I've included here. Just click on an image to see a larger version.
By the way, if anyone can identify the yellow guy in the third photo, I'd appreciate hearing from you. He jumped onto my arm while I was sitting on a friend's porch in Hamilton, Ontario. I ran into the house to grab the camera, all the while worried he'd jump or fly off. He is about half the size of a grain of rice. Once I got back outside I snapped three photos while he was still on my arm. It wasn't until I saw them on my computer monitor that I realized he had some black in him as well as big beautiful eyes and a hairy tail! I have no idea what he is so if anyone can shed some light on him I'd appreciate it.
