A woman can say more in a sigh, than a man can say in a sermon. -Arnold Haultain

I am always working on new ideas for photographs. Quite often, I have more ideas than models so if you like to have your picture taken, this is the place to be.

Cindy The model you see to your left is not really a model at all: She is simply a lady who wanted something different. She picked out some dresses from my wardrobe and then for an evening, she became a model and the centre of attention in my studio.

You can do the same thing. If you want something different, and if it's something that I want or need for my portfolio and website, than I will be more than happy to help you with your dream shoot. As often as not, such a shoot can be done for trade, or TF/CD.

TF/CD stands for a couple of different things but they all mean bassically the same thing. It can mean, 'Trade For CD,' 'Time For CD.' In essence, no money exchanges hands but both model and photographer come away with photographs that will benefit both of us.

What a model should expect from a TF shoot

  1. A friendly, professional photo shoot. The model will at all times be treated with respect.
  2. Work that is equal to the photographer's talents. Under NO circumstances will a TF photo shoot mean second-class photographs.
  3. A signed release stating what the model will recieve in compensation for her work, whether it be in the form of prints or digital copies. This protects both the model and photographer because their rights and obligations are made clear before the photo shoot starts.

What a model should not expect from a TF shoot

  1. Money. This includes any revenue that may or may not be made from the sale or license of the photographs at some point in the future.
  2. Unlimited rights to the photographs. In most countries, the photographer owns the rights to any photographs. The model may ask for a clear description of how any photographs may ultimately be used by the photographer, and I will do that. But ultimately, I own the photographs. The model may use the photographs for self-promotion, but is not permitted to sell or license them.
  3. Unlimited prints. Photographs, especially portfolio-quality photographs are expensive. Therefore model(s) will recieve their photographs on a CD, with a limited usage license so he/she can print them. If the model wants actual prints rather than a CD, than the cost of those prints is the model's responsibility.

One complaint that is often made in cases where trade takes place, is that since he/she isn't paying any money, a model's reliability isn't important. That is simply not true. In many cases, I invest money into a photograph, be it clothing that is purchased or other equipent like props. When someone makes a committment to have photos taken, even if it's a trade, it is absolutely vital to keep that appointment. If it's impossible to make the appointment, a call ahead of time is common courtesy. And I don't mean 28 minutes before the scheduled start time. The day before at least.

Some things to expect when planning a TF shoot with me

If you want to shoot something for yourself that holds no interest for me, we will have to come up with a concept that you can shoot for my website. If I am trading my time and talent to get the photos you want, than I need something that I want for my portfolio in return.

You may be asked to provide a current photo as well as your age, height and weight. These three pieces of information will be absolutely vital in helping me decide what sort of photos would be appropriate for you, and indeed, whether or not I can use your 'look' in my portfolio. If I turn you down, please do not take it personally. It is simply a matter of me not being able to use your look right now. It doesn't mean something won't come up soon.

Now, how be we get together and create some beautiful art?
